About Ahmed Law & Mediation
Ahmed Law & Mediation is a New York-based family law and divorce resolution practice, with offices in Manhattan and White Plains. Founded by attorney-mediator Talaiya A. Ahmed, the firm helps clients move through some of life’s most difficult transitions with clarity, structure, and less conflict than a courtroom battle usually requires.
A Law Firm Built Around a Better Way Forward
Firm Overview
For over two decades, Talaiya Ahmed has focused her career on family law, and on finding better ways to help clients resolve it. That experience shaped the philosophy behind Ahmed Law & Mediation: legal matters involving divorce, prenuptial agreements, or family disputes don't have to be adversarial to be handled well.
The firm offers both mediation-centered resolution and direct legal representation, so clients aren't limited to one path. Whether a couple wants to work through a divorce together outside of court, put a prenuptial agreement in place before marriage, or needs an attorney to advocate for them directly, Ahmed Law & Mediation has a process built for it.
Every matter is handled with the same approach: listen carefully, explain the options clearly, and help clients make informed decisions about their own future.

What we do
Our Practice Areas
Divorce Mediation
Divorce mediation gives spouses a way to resolve the terms of their divorce together, with the guidance of a neutral attorney-mediator, instead of having decisions made for them in court. For couples who want more attorney involvement while still avoiding litigation, the firm also offers collaborative divorce, a structured, team-based alternative that keeps the process focused on settlement.
Family Law
Not every family law matter is a fit for mediation, and that's where the firm's family law representation comes in. This includes divorce, custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, orders of protection, and post-judgment modifications, handled through direct advocacy for individual clients.
Prenuptial Agreements
Prenuptial agreement mediation gives engaged couples a way to talk through finances and expectations before marriage, guided by one neutral attorney-mediator rather than two lawyers negotiating from opposite sides. The goal is a clear, balanced agreement built on understanding, not conflict.
How we work
Our Approach
Talaiya built this firm around a simple idea: clients deserve options. Not every family situation calls for the same process, and not every conflict needs to end up in court.
That's why Ahmed Law & Mediation offers both mediation-based resolution and traditional legal representation under one roof. Clients who start in mediation and later need representation, or who need litigation support and eventually want mediation for a related matter, can stay within the same practice, working with attorneys who already understand their situation.
The firm serves clients throughout New York City, Manhattan, White Plains, and Westchester County, with virtual sessions available for mediation matters.
Both mediation and direct legal representation available under one roof
Clients are never limited to a single path — the right process depends on the situation
Seamless continuity if your needs shift between mediation and representation
Options explained clearly so clients can make informed decisions

Meet Our Team
Founder & Attorney-Mediator
Talaiya A. Ahmed, Esq.
Talaiya A. Ahmed is the founder of Ahmed Law & Mediation and an attorney-mediator with more than two decades of experience in family law. She graduated from George Washington University Law School in 2000 and spent the early part of her career as a founding partner of Ahmed & Yau, LLP, with offices in Manhattan, Queens, and Scarsdale, where her practice focused on family law and its frequent intersection with immigration law.
That experience showed her how adversarial the traditional legal process can be for families already navigating a difficult transition, which led her toward mediation as a more constructive, cost-effective way to help clients resolve disputes. Talaiya has been certified in mediation by the New York Peace Institute since 2011, and is a member of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, the Family Law Section, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, and the Women in Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
As an immigrant herself, Talaiya has a personal understanding of how cultural and religious norms can shape a family's conflicts and their resolution, a perspective that informs the way she works with every client she serves.
Attorney, Family Law
Demet Gots, Esq.
Demet Gots is a family law associate at Ahmed Law & Mediation Group and a Part 146 approved mediator with a background spanning more than a decade of federal practice. Her work focuses on helping clients resolve matters involving divorce, custody, support, and other family disputes, with particular attention to the cross-cultural issues that can complicate conflict and communication.
Throughout her career, Demet has worked with hundreds of clients from more than five continents, an experience that shaped her approach to advocacy, negotiation, and dispute resolution. She came to believe that lasting resolutions are often reached when people have the opportunity to feel heard and work toward practical solutions, which ultimately led her to transition into family law and mediation.
Demet brings a combination of legal experience, cross-cultural communication skills, and experience navigating high-stakes disputes. Whether a matter is best resolved through negotiation, mediation, or the family court process, she works with clients to identify the path that best fits their circumstances and helps them move toward agreements that are practical, durable, and responsive to what matters most.
Executive Assistant & Client Relations
Raquel Castillo-Orozco
Raquel Castillo-Orozco leads client relations at Ahmed Law & Mediation and serves as Executive Assistant to the firm. She's often the first person clients speak with, and she works to make sure every call and every step of the process feels organized, responsive, and manageable.
Raquel finds family law meaningful because of the people behind each case. She takes pride in being part of a team that helps clients through one of the more difficult chapters of their lives, and in providing the kind of clear communication that makes a stressful process feel a little easier.
